Is Christian Science the same as Scientology?

Why is it called Christian Science? Why Science?
It’s Science because it is based upon a set of spiritual laws - principles that cannot be broken and relate to the nature of God and His creation, all GOOD. These principles can be applied with expected and consistent results. Similar to the science of math, where 2 + 2 can never be anything other than 4, God and His creation can never be anything other than good.
Can I heal using Christian Science?
Yes, you absolutely can and Jesus made this promise in the New Testament, “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…" (John 14:12, New International Version).
The Bible, along with Jesus’ definitive demonstrations of healing, gives us a standard of healing resting on timeless and universal spiritual laws. By cultivating an understanding of the complete goodness of God and our inseparability from that goodness, you too can experience healing.
Christian Scientists fully accept and believe this promise of Jesus. By following his teachings and understanding the spiritual laws he practiced, they are committed to spiritual healing that includes both physical cures of disease and dysfunction as well as the reformation and restoration of lives.
This unique approach to healing has proven effective for generations of Christian Scientists, many times after a medical diagnosis indicated a condition was incurable. Christian Science healing is not faith healing, positive thinking, or self-hypnosis. It calls for Christian faith in and understanding of God as unconditionally and dependably good, to whom nothing is impossible. Its practice is Christian—living according to Jesus’ teaching and example. And its practice is scientific—living according to the spiritual laws of God that can be learned, understood, and proven through healing and regeneration.
Christian Scientists are always free to choose for themselves and their families the kind of health care that meets their needs. However, by practicing Christian Science, many have lived happy and healthy lives free of drugs and other systems of physical care.

Is it true that Christian Scientists don’t take medicine?
A Christian Scientist’s first choice is typically to rely on prayer for healing. There is no biblical or church mandate to forgo medical intervention, no pressure to forgo medical treatment, nor do Christian Scientists believe that it’s God’s will that anyone suffer or die. A Christian Scientist’s decision to rely on prayer comes from a deep understanding of God’s infinite and perfect care under every circumstance. Therefore, medical treatment is a personal choice in which church does not interfere.
